A perfect treat for the Super Bowl or any get together are homemade brownies and making them with my Sourdough Starter that was established 200-years ago in San Francisco makes them even more special!

This recipe comes together easily and can all be done by hand, no mixer needed!

For this recipe you will be using active, bubbly sourdough starter. I feed Albus Dumbledough, my sourdough starter that was established 200-years ago in San Francisco, 4-6 hours before I want to bake. There are some great recipes that use sourdough discard but this recipe calls for a bubbly starter!

Ingredients

  • Flour (3/4 Cup) or 94 grams

  • Sugar (1 1/2 Cups) or 300 grams

  • Cocoa Powder (1/2 Cup) or 50 grams

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 Stick butter (if you use salted butter, most the salt above)

  • Chips (1 Cup) or 224 grams

  • Vanilla 1tsp

  • 2 eggs

  • Active Sourdough Starter (1/2 Cup) or 113 grams

Step 1

  • Combine flour, sugar, cocoa and salt

  • Set aside

Step 2

  • Melt butter over low heat

  • Add Chips

  • Stir until combined

Step 3

  • Combine dry ingredients with chip/butter mixture and store until well combined

Step 4

  • Add eggs and sourdough starter to mixture store until throughly combined

Step 5

  • Transfer to a baking dish

  • Line pan with parchment paper for easy removal

  • 8x8 for a thick brownie

  • 8x11 for a thinner brownie

  • Sprinkle with nuts, sprinkle or chips of choice to customize for any event!

Step 6

  • Bake at 350 for 40 minutes or until a cake tester (or toothpick, or spaghetti noodle) comes out clean from center.

Step 7

  • Allow to cool 10-15 minutes

  • Use parchment to remove from pan

  • Cut and serve warm or store in airtight container

  • I enjoy mine with ice cream!
